Project progress report by earned value (EVM)

Enter the plan and actuals for each period in the template file, then upload it to see at once whether the project is ahead or behind schedule, over or under budget, plus the forecast total cost at completion and the disbursement schedule. For project owners, project management boards and supervision units.

Three steps

Step 1

Download the Excel template. The "Instructions" sheet explains each PV, EV and AC column.

Download template (.xlsx)
Step 2

Enter figures by period (month or quarter), in VND million. For periods not yet reached, enter PV only.

Step 3

Upload the file (.xlsx or .csv). It is read in your browser and is not sent anywhere.

How to read: SPI = EV/PV (below 1 means behind schedule), CPI = EV/AC (below 1 means spending more than the value of work done). EAC = BAC/CPI assumes cost performance stays at its current level; forecast duration = planned periods / SPI is only a rough estimate. Results depend entirely on the input data; this does not replace supervision, acceptance or audit reports.
Frequently asked questions

Quick questions about this tool

What do SPI and CPI below 1 mean?

SPI = EV/PV: below 1 means less work has been completed than planned up to the reporting period, i.e. behind schedule. CPI = EV/AC: below 1 means more money has been spent than the value of work done, i.e. a cost overrun.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. Excel or CSV files are read in your browser; data reaches CGD only when you click send.

How accurate are the forecast total cost (EAC) and completion time?

EAC = BAC/CPI assumes cost performance from now to the end stays at its current level. Forecast duration = planned periods / SPI is only a rough estimate. Results depend entirely on the input data and do not replace supervision, acceptance or audit reports.

What format should the file be in?

Use the template file downloaded from this page: one row per period, columns PV, EV, AC and disbursement (optional), in VND million. For periods not yet reached, enter PV only.
