Dry port, ICD and logistics center
Dry ports, inland customs clearance points and logistics centers live on container flows. The right design is to design for the vehicle line, for the customs supervision flow and for the output of the next ten years, not just the opening year.
Where do investors often get stuck?
The TEU forecast determines almost everything: yard area, number of gate lanes, number of equipment. Optimistic forecasts lead to capital accumulation in land and infrastructure; If you are too cautious, it will be blocked as soon as the quantity increases.
Vehicles entering, waiting, lifting, exiting — overlapping routes or one gate lacking a lane is enough to cause the entire port to be congested. Must see the queue before pouring concrete.
The goods inspection area, CFS warehouse, and bonded warehouse must be located in the right flow of supervision and separate goods that have and have not been cleared, and at the same time not cross the vehicle route.
Roads, railways or waterways leading to ports are often more decisive than the premises themselves - and are beyond the initiative of the investor.
Specific design constraints
- Container yard: number of floors, equipment type (RTG, reach stacker), distance from vehicle aisle
- Gate: number of entry/exit lanes, OCR lanes, waiting area in front of the gate
- CFS warehouse: floor as high as the trunk, dock door, roof to cover the rain
- Weighing station, inspection area, quarantine area according to monitoring flow
- The road surface is heavily loaded and has extensive surface water drainage

Frequently asked questions
How is a dry port different from a logistics center when designing?
The dry port is closely associated with the function of customs clearance and container exploitation, so the premises revolve around the yard, gate and customs supervision area. Logistics centers tend to be warehouse and distribution oriented, with premises revolving around warehouses, docks and parking lots. Many projects have both functions and must be separated from the planning.
Which step should I start with?
From the beginning of the article output and land area: TEU forecast by period, land boundary and traffic connection. Only with those two things can we determine the scale of yards, gates, warehouses and divergent investment roadmap.
